Pearland is located south of Houston in Brazoria County, Texas. According to Pearland’s motto, this is “where town and country meet.” The “town” of Houston is less than 20 minutes away from the “country” feel of Pearland. More than 83,000 Pearland residents enjoy the community’s small town feel. Founded in 1894, Pearland began as a railroad switching station. Pear trees were planted by Midwesterners seeking warmer climates, giving Pearland its name.

The city has experienced tremendous growth in the last 25 years due to the discovery of oil. More than 40 churches, plenty of parks, medical facilities, abundant day care facilities, low unemployment rates, and great shopping characterize Pearland. More than nine grocery stores and scores of shops, restaurants, and services are conveniently located on the primary thoroughfares of Main and Broadway and on the nearby smaller streets.

Pearland schools were awarded exemplary status—the highest rating given in education within the State of Texas. Pearland Community College offers transfer courses to a number of outstanding colleges. These include Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University, Texas A&M, Sam Houston State University, and the University of Houston. Pearland annually hosts a Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks event, a Christmas Parade, and the Strickland Chevrolet Golf Classic.
